CURACAO MODEL SEARCH
Hi Guys, sorry we have been away and left the blogspot dry since October. However the team is back and in full effect and my my my, 2011 is going to be another victorious year of growth for Confidence. The questions is where were we? Our team staff and members were involved in the amazing Curacao model search competition which takes place in Curacao, a lovely Island based inbetween the Caribbeans and South America. Alongside us was Elmika Model Management, Fashion Girls Production and celebrity model and actor Tyson Beckford.

Curacao Model Search is the national event for models in Curacao, the winners are placed with agency's around the world including yours very Confidence Models. This year Christine, Tyson and Nana acted as judges in the epic competition. Last year the event had a representative from premier model management and Nigel Barker from America's Next Top Model.

London Fashion Week review

There goes another hectic, fun packed London Fashion Week for another season till it comes back with avengance in September. Some people have said the designs haven't been as innovative and cutting edge as recent seasons, but we at Confidence Model Management would disagree as we toured the catwalks throughout the week from our frontrow seat, watching a great variety of shows from the classic style of the Topman show through to the 1920's influences in Jasper Garvida's collection,the Storkyrkan Cathedral inspired work by Stefan Orschel-Read, and the eclectic mix of styles on display from the designers at UNTOLD. Our models also continued to grace the catwalk to great reviews at the shows they did, with special mention going to Denisa and Anthony for their efforts.

So we will leave you with some of our highlights of the week to keep you going till next time!

We didn't have to wait long for these! Looking more like her blonde bombshell old self is Madonna, who appears in Dolce & Gabbana's Spring/Summer 2010 campaign. Showing no signs of frustration at being replaced at Louis Vuitton by Lara Stone, the Queen of Pop displays a more playful domestic side in these grainy black-and-white shots taken by Steven Klein. Vanity Fair Italy scored the exclusive first shots of Madge who reflects her Italian heritage - a bonus for the designer duo.
It seems she was their perfect choice for the campaign. "She loved the collection," revealed Stefano Gabbana. "[Madonna is] passionate and impressively knowledgeable about Italian cinema." See more after the jump...

Lovers of denim listen up because they are about to get a whole lot punkier, thanks to a new collaboration between Vivienne Westwood's Anglomania and Lee Jeans.
Known as the The Vivienne Westwood Anglomania and Lee collection, the nine-piece range is set to include superskinny jeans and microshorts for women, and bondage and skinny jeans for men. They will be available in dark indigo washes, metallic colours and printed designs.
"It is very important for us to work with a denim brand like Lee with such a strong heritage," said Carlo D'Amario, managing director of Vivienne Westwood. Prices will range from £80 to £200 and will debut next autumn in Westwood boutiques and selected retailers.

BREAKING NEWS: Europe takes a stand against airbrushing

Britain is leading the pack in the fight against airbrushing. The U.K.'s Committee of Advertising Practice has received a report compiled by more than 40 academics that demands a ban on ads including Photoshopped models targeted at girls under 16.
The report shows that there is a link between unhealthy behaviour in adolescents who are exposed to images of skinny, airbrushed images.
"The weight of the evidence...shows that thin, 'perfected' media images have a detrimental effect on how girls and women think and feel about their own bodies," said Dr. Helga Dittmar of the University of Sussex.

Luella Bartley’s Luella label ceased trading this week after it’s backer, Club 21, announced that it had reluctantly “taken the decision not to invest further in its relationship with Luella Bartley Limited”. I can imagine why someone would want to drop the Luella label, its just not selling. It seemed to be going from strength to strength in editioral attention, receiving rave reviews along the way and picking up a strong celebrity following. Gutted fans have already set up a “save luella” facebook group.
However, the good news for bargain hunters is that Luella’s online shop is selling the current line at considerably reduced prices.

The best of the best fashion elite made a style stampede to culminate London Fashion Weeks 25th anniversary with the British Fashion Awards last night to celebrate the industries talents. The deserving winners this year included Christopher Kane who won the BFC British collection of the year and Christopher Bailey who won BFC designer of the year for Burberry. The amazing Grace Coddington deservedly won the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator and John Galliano the BFC Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design for his work at Dior and his own label; other award winners included Kate Moss, Georgia May Jagger, Holly Fulton, Peter Pilotto, Victoria beckham, Katie Hillier and Kim Jones. VIVIENNE WESTWOOD'S Anglomania show took place in London last night in the unlikely location of the Selfridges car park, just off Oxford Street. Westwood, who perched in the front row with partner Andreas Kronthaler rather than fussing backstage, unveiled her spring/summer 2010 collection to a gathering of press, as well as her most loyal customers.
"We really wanted tonight to be about our best customers," Selfridges womenswear buying director Anita Barr told VOGUE.COM. "I'm lucky enough to see the clothes on the catwalks during fashion week, but the customers often don't and it's so amazing to see them styled up that way by a designer."
The show, which featured Daisy Lowe on the catwalk, was typical Anglomania fare; plenty of colour, plenty of humour and more than a hint of Westwood's political agenda. The show was followed by a performance by 13-year-old singer Dionne Bromfield, who is signed to Any Winehouse's Lioness Records, enlisted by Barr.
"Westwood performs incredibly well for us," Barr revealed. "Across all stores, across all departments - from men's to women's to accessories - all the collections sell consistently well every season. She's pretty amazing."

The founder of Confidance Models Mr Nana A. Tamakloe was all over the BBC worldwide, the Gaurdian (link) , the fashionspot (link) and various blogs this week, however we are overwhelmed by bbc Spains article.
Una lluvia de críticas cayó sobre la revista Vogue, luego de que en el último número de su edición francesa publicara fotos de una modelo europea blanca pintada de negro.

En el número de octubre de la revista, la cara y el cuerpo de la modelo holandesa Lara Stone, de 25 años, aparecen cubiertos de maquillaje oscuro en algunas de las fotos, luciendo como una mujer negra.

Organizaciones y agencias de modelos criticaron fuertemente la decisión, que calificaron de "culturalmente insensible" y de "falta de tacto".

"Todo mundo sabe cuál es el clima político en la industria de la moda, la gente sabe que hay mucha discriminación racial en la industria, así que al hacer lo que hicieron simplemente dejaron ver que no les importa lo que piensa la gente", dijo a BBC Mundo, Nana A. Tamakloe, fundador de la agencia británica Confidence Model Management.

La edición especial muestra a famosas modelos blancas como Kate Moss, Claudia Schiffer o Eva Herzigova, pero no incluye a conocidas modelos negras como la inglesa Naomi Campbell o la sudanés Alek Wek.
"Ofensivo"
Boicot

No tengo la menor idea de qué tipo de mensaje estaban dando, pero resulta ofensivo", señala Tamakloe.

"Considerando el hecho de que a las modelos negras se les dice todo el tiempo que ni siquiera podrán conseguir los trabajos que muchas modelos europeas obtienen, ahora resulta que se les dice que ni siquiera pueden obtener el trabajo de las modelos negras, porque lo que se va a hacer es simplemente pintar de negro a las europeas".

Tamakloe afirma que su agencia promueve a todas las modelos que tiene en su catálogo, en el que, dice, hay una gran variedad.

El empresario afirma que a la modelo Lara Stone no la pintaron de color negro, sino que "fue maquillada para que pareciera una mujer negra".

"Este uno de los casos en los que todos estamos en desacuerdo y deberíamos boicotear este número de Vogue".

The tour will begin on November 27 in Montreal, and will wind up on January 21, 2010 in Gaga's hometown, New York City. Kid Cudi will be the supporting act for the entire tour.
Says Lady Gaga, "The Haus of Gaga had been designing 'The Monster Ball' for premiere in 2010 at the O2 Arena in London, but due to diligent work and preparation, 'The Monster Ball' will begin on November 27 in Montreal. What were they thinking? Surely this is the only possible reaction to the October issue of French Vogue in which the 25-year-old Dutch Model Lara Stone has been blacked up. Styled by the magazine's editor and grande fromage of fashion, Carine Roitfeld, and shot by photographer Steven Klein (whose credits include D&G, YSL and W magazine), the 13-page shoot is as perplexing as it is offensive. Stone is painted black in four of the pictures; in all she is styled to look suitably "ethnic", with accessories including a silk fringed headscarf and a black feathered headdress, just in case the message of black skin equals exotic otherness was too subtle.
If the images are supposed to be an artistic form of social commentary, they have pitched it badly wrong. In an issue billed on the cover as Top Models Special no black women feature in any of the shoots (and not even in a Benetton advert). In a special "rendezvous avec la legende" they've got Kate Moss, Claudia Schiffer, Eva Herzigova but no Naomi Campbell and no Iman. There's no Alek Wek, and no Liya Kebede. Naomi Campbell makes the news pages, but that's about it. If they were after a young gun, why not use Chanel Iman or Jourdan Dunn instead of painting Stone, a white woman, black? "It's as if we've stepped back in time," says Shevelle Rhule, fashion and beauty editor at black women's magazine Pride.
"It's horrible, there's nothing else to describe it," says Nana A Tamakloe, founder of Confidence Model Management, which has a diverse range of models on its books. "The image says we'd rather turn a European model white than hire a black model." French Vogue failed to respond to our queries, and meanwhile, in other blacking up news, Dizzee Rascal has what looks like a load of black-and-white minstrels on the set of his new video, Dirtee Cash. Please let this not be the start of a trend.
